Prof. Dr. Işıl Barlan, born in 1958, a prominent doctor and investigator in pediatrics and allergy and clinical immunology sadly passed away on April 13,2015.

Dr. Barlan graduated from renowned İstanbul Robert College 1977, then moved on to receive her medical degree from Cerrahpaşa Medical School in 1983. Devoting much of her time to research in addition to her clinical role, she became a full professor in 2000. During her career, she served in Executive Committee of European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), Allergy and Immunology Department in Marmara University School of Medicine as Chief, Pediatrics department as Chief, set up ‘Center of Immune Deficiency’ in Marmara University, established ‘Association of Immune Deficiency’ and founded ‘Turkish chapter of the International Patient Organization for Primary Immunodeficiencies’. She went on to receive prestigious Sedat Simavi Prize in Turkey for her contributions to scientific advancements in Medicine.

She pursued scientific knowledge in her field to help more people, especially children. As one of the distinguished allergist/immunologist in Turkey, she was a strong advocate of women’s advancement in medicine.

This funding program is created by her colleagues, friends and students in her name in the hopes of spreading the light of knowledge and health that she created.
